CSR Business Administration Study Program in Makassar

“Kreativitas & Daya Saing Menuju Indonesia Yang Berdaulat, Mandiri, dan Berkepribadian Berlandaskan Gotong Royong”

On 24-25th March 2017, The Business Administration (BA) Department organized a CSR trip to Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan. The CSR intended to deliver the business knowledge lecturers have to enrich Makassar to increase their own local wisdom. The CSR aimed to discover insights to bring out Makassar’s uniqueness for both national and international awareness. The CSR team was warmly welcomed by Mr. Ichwan Jacub, Kabid Industri Dinas Perdagangan (DISDAG) Makassar. The lecturer team from the Business Administration Department of Swiss German University held a discussion with Mr. Ichwan to hear about and explore the current situation that Makassar is facing. The CSR was also supported by fourth semester students from the Business Administration Department. Mr. Ichwan received suggestions and questions from students.

Mr. Ichwan mentioned several obstacles and challenges in Makassar’s Tenun industry. Makassar is willing to build the uniqueness in their tenun. One of the biggest challenges is how to build creativity and spirit in Makassar crafters. The Government of Makassar is also currently developing Batik that originates from Makassar. Lecturers and students suggested that uniqueness and creativity is important to gain awareness from the national and international public. The CSR was also welcomed by the Mayor of Makassar’s wife, Mrs. Indira Yusuf Ismail, at their official residency. The CSR continued to hear and get insights as well as deliver knowledge to the Makassar Government. Mrs. Indira shared the current situation and her agenda as the head of Dewan Kerajinan Nasional Daerah (DEKRANASDA) Makassar.

All lecturers were enthusiastic about her explanation of Batik Lontara, the textile that they are currently developing. The lecturers also discussed how to bring Lontara to a strong place in the market and gain national and international awareness. Mrs. Indira also showed her Batik Lontara collections so the lecturers and students could see in detail. Mrs. Indira stated that the Government in Makassar is open to a network with SGU and would be glad if the Business Administration Department would visit again to explore and further assist the Makassar Government. She believed it would help the Government in promoting Batik Lontara and Makassar. The lecturers were very lucky to also meet Mr. Ir. H. Moh. Ramdhan Pomanto, Walikota Makassar, before leaving.

At the same time, a CSR also was delivered to SMA Athira Makassar, Baruga branch. The CSR aimed to motivate and open up the student mindset about entrepreneurship. The CSR team was welcomed by Mr. Ibnu, the Principal Vice of SMA Athira Makassar, with students from grade 10, 11, and 12 in attendance. Students received entrepreneurial games, and an entrepreneurship seminar. They were enthusiastic to participate and asked many questions about business.

 

The CSR continued the following day in a discussion with several SMEs in Makassar and DEKRANASDA members. The discussion aimed to get deeper insights again and deliver business knowledge our lecturers have. The CSR lecturer team from the Business Administration Department included Dr. Dr. Dipl-ing Rachman Sjarief, MM., MH., Dr. Nila Krisnawati Hidayat, SE., MM., Fiter Abadi, BA., MBA., Margaretha Lingga, SE., MM., and Mochammad Riyadh Rizky Adam, ST., MSM. The lecturers come from diverse expert backgrounds in human resource, research, strategy, finance, and marketing.

Makassar SMSs were happy to receive the knowledge. DEKRANASDA Makassar also mentioned that BA SGU must return to Makassar to share more in a workshop session to more SMEs and DEKRANASDA as well.
