Mechatronics Applications in Daily Life

Mechatronics Applications in Daily Life

Mechatronics is always identified with anything sophisticated, but without realizing it, many mechatronics applications in daily life. One of the easiest to find is the self-detection feature on your smartphone camera. Another example is mechatronics applications in automobiles, Elon Musk’s self-driving car called Tesla which has also been popular in recent years. There are already many videos circulating in which Tesla drivers can fall asleep on their way to their destination place.

The following are some of another mechatronics applications in daily life

Amazon Fresh

Here in LA, you can experience self-service shopping. Amazon launched Amazon Fresh’s first physical grocery store. But what makes it different is that you can take advantage of various technologies created by Amazon. One of the mechatronics applications here is the Amazon Dash Cart. The carts will be equipped with computer vision algorithms and sensors to identify which items you drop in. You can use it by signing in using a QR code on your Amazon app. At the end of your shopping time, you can pay it automatically without having to wait in line at the checkout, and your receipt will be emailed to you.

Singapore Smart LRT Windows

Developed countries always have a solution to protect the privacy of their citizens. Here in Singapore, the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transport (LRT) is equipped with smart glass technology every day. This smart window can usually be programmed within 6 meters of residential blocks, and it will automatically go blind as it passes the residential blocks. This is certainly a very thoughtful thing for residents because there is no need to worry anymore and giving them their much-needed privacy.

JD Robotic Warehouse Sorting

Another sophistication comes from JD.com which opened its fully automated sorting center in Kunshan, China. Here, the entire packaging process to sorting orders is all done by the robots and robotic arms. JD opened the world’s first fully-unmanned storage facility last October 2018, covering 40,000 square meters and capable of handling up to 9.000 online orders per hour or roughly 200,000 items a day, and ship them to customers across China. JD’s warehouse automation can also optimize workflows and increase efficiency. Sebelumnya, JD would employ up tp 500 workers, tapi dengan adanya kecanggihan ini mereka dapat memotong hingga cukup 5 workers only.

From shopping in supermarkets, public transportation, to stuff we buy in e-commerce, everything today is inseparable from mechatronics applications in daily life. However, it is not impossible that these technologies will also be applied in Indonesia if we have the qualified manpower to build it.

If you don’t want to be out of date, take the right steps to keep up with the changes. Or more, you could be the first to bring change to Indonesia in the field of Mechatronics and Artificial Intelligence. By learning Mechatronics Engineering, of course you can make similar changes in Indonesia!

Studying Mechatronics in SGU is the best way to prepare yourself to be an excellent and well-balanced engineer. The standard of mechatronics teaching at Swiss German University uses a design-based learning and project-based learning system. SGU Mechatronics curriculum is more emphasis on teaching systems based on the Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program. Almost all subjects are taught by giving the general mechatronics system by means of a system approach, that the more detailed lessons of the corresponding topics, components as well as their fundamental analysis will be brought up as part of the overall system. You will learn how to design and manufacture the project, troubleshoot, solve & analyze the problem. Mechatronics SGU also allows you to do the project individually to be able to work in a variety of conditions.
