Internship Report by 3rd Semester of Biomedical Engineering

From  August 3rd to August 21st 2015, the third semester Biomedical Engineering students attended a 3-week internship at Rumah Sakit Kanker Dharmais, Jakarta. The aim of this internship was to introduce the students to medical equipment used in hospitals and the diagnostic determination of various diseases through laboratory examination. 

For the first two weeks, the students were placed under the Radio Diagnostic Department. In this department, the students were trained under the supervision of radiographers and were introduced to medical equipment used in radio diagnostic procedures, such as mammography, conventional, gamma camera, USG, CT scan, PET scan and MRI. The students were also informed about the work principles and given general information about the instruments. 

In the last week, the students were placed in the Clinical Pathology Department. Under the supervision and guidance of doctors and employees, the students were introduced to various examinations and diagnostic procedures which involve laboratory tests carried out in the Clinical Pathology Department. The students were able to observe and gather information about haematology, hemostasis, urine-electrophoresis, chemical-immune, molecular diagnostics, microbiology, and flowcytometry, as well as their principles and benefits as diagnostic tools for healthcare practioners.
