German - ASEAN Conference on Mass Transport Technology (Focus on Railway Technology)

In order to contribute to the sustainable development of mega cities, efficient mass transport systems play a key role. Especially in Asia, the problems of a fast growing population and an increasing demand for mobility can only be mastered by the rapid implementation of state-of-the-art transport technologies.

Advanced German railway systems are already in use at several urban regions in Asia and have successfully demonstrated to enhance the situation there, last but not least in Bangkok. Recently, the German-Thai Engineering Technology Alliance (G-TETA) has been initiated in order to not only transfer latest technology for the Bangkok Mass Transit Master Plan, but to combine this with the transfer of know-how, practice-oriented railway engineering education and local follow-up manufacturing.

In this conference, the three German-ASEAN Science and Technology (GAST) institutions TGGS Bangkok, GIST- TUM Asia Singapore and SGU Jakarta are teaming to provide a broad overview on modern mass transportation technology and railway engineering education “Made in Germany”, supplemented by local expert views. The conference will then move to Singapore and Jakarta, again to act as a platform there for discussing, how German technology can be applied to the solution of the prevailing local problems.

This conference was succesfully held in Jakarta and Singapore on 27th and 31st May 2010. We thanked speakers and participants for their contribution on the success of this event.
