SGU Trusted to be a Research Partner by XL

Dian Siswarini, Director of Technology, Content and New Business XL Axiata with Prof. Martin Löffelholz, SGU rector
SGU, Monday, 17 September 2012. XL Axiata, one of the leading telecommunication companies in Indonesia, coupled with Swiss German University to do joint research in cloud computing. Swiss German University was represented by the rector, Prof. Dr. phil. Martin Löffelholz, who signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the 8th floor of Menara Prima, Kuningan, Jakarta.
XL Axiata is committed to support the growth of research for technology which can be enjoyed and have a positive impact on society. As a national scale enterprise, XL Axiata will not be reckless in choosing who to be a partner with. This is proven by selecting Swiss German University which has high competency in information technology.
“As one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Indonesia, we always pick a university which has the best track record for our joint research project because we want to have advice and creative ideas from thinkers in the university to be implemented in the industry,” said Dian Siswarini, Director of Technology, Content and New Business XL Axiata.
“It is our honor to be selected to become a partner by a large scale company such as XL Axiata. It is even better because it involves students. This is important to enrich their experience in industry,” said Prof. Martin Löffelholz, SGU rector in his speech before signing the agreement.
Besides Swiss German University, another chosen partner by XL is the University of Indonesia. Later on, Swiss German University will focus on the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for cloud computing while the University of Indonesia will focus on the security and cloud computing system.
“By involving students, our hope is that they can implement their knowledge from the campus, and of course I will guide them virtually and consult with them while they are there,” said Charles Lim, MSc., ECSA, ECSP, ECIH, CEH, CEI, a lecturer in the SGU Information Technology faculty who is also an independent researcher for ID-SIRTII (Indonesian Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure).
With this cooperation between campus and industry, we expect the campus research results can be implemented in the business world, and not just be an article in a journal. We also hope the link and match program from the Ministry of Education can be implemented.
