Mechatronics Day 3

Mechatronics Day 3

Mechatronics Study Program under the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology of Swiss German University as the pioneer in offering Mechatronics Engineering in Indonesia held an annual event entitled Mechatronics Day 3 on 21, 26 – 29 October 2017. This non-academic event organized by the mechatronics students aimed to share the knowledge of Mechatronics in Indonesia, so more people will be aware of this study program in the future. Supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, it also aimed to help explore the potential of Indonesian youth  to face real life application challenges.

The event was officiated on 26 October 2017 by the Assistant Deputy of Youth Improvement on Science & Technology and Faith & Piety, Mr. Esa Sukmawijaya, SP, M.Si, a representative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia during the opening ceremony. This year, the event has further expanded its competition categories. Besides the two competitions, a seminar with the theme of “Exploring Perspectives in Advancing Technology” was also delivered by the representatives from NEXT System and Ralali.com for all participating students, with the aim of raising the awareness of benefits and downsides of technology which has grown more advanced over the years.

The first competition was for High School students with the theme of “Wall Follower Robot Competition”, which successfully grabbed the attention of 8 schools in Jabodetabek and Bandung area with a total of 13 participating teams. Each team consisted of 3 students and was mentored by 2 Mechatronics student from SGU. They had to design and assemble their own Wall Follower Robots after a workshop on the basic skills has been delivered and the Robot had to be able to go through the arena without crashing onto the wall in the arena. Then each team should presenting their robot to the judges; Zerfan iYulias from Komunitas Robot Indonesia, Samuel Christian Tjahyadi from NEXT System, and Eka Samuel Ma'arief from Polman Astra.

The newest addition to the event was a competition for University students called Pick and Place Machine, which exposes them to real life Mechatronics (Mechanical, Electronics and Computer Science) problems. There were 19 participating teams consisting of 2 members each from 6 universities; BINUS ASO School of Engineering, Politeknik Manufaktur Astra, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Swiss German University, and Universitas Kristen Maranatha. The teams were put into two qualification rounds, where they had to undergo a theoretical test and a practical test. In the practical qualification round, all team members were to play around with pneumatics components sponsored by PT Festo Indonesia. Three teams with the highest scores, namely representatives from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Swiss German University and Universitas Kristen Maranatha, advanced to the final round where they had to program as well as assemble the Pick and Place Machine, which uses the two axis Delta Robot commonly used in factories. Then, they had to present their final product to the judges; Dadan Daniswara from ACS Aerofood Indonesia, Muhammad Tawakkal from PT Festo Indonesia, and Eka Apriandi from PT Festo Indonesia.
