Last October 2016, 15 5th semester students from the Department of Chemical Engineering with the concentration of Sustainable Energy and Environment went to Germany as part of SGU’s program particular for this department. They went to Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena, Germany to finish their 5thand 6th semesters having also an international internship opportunity. They had their first half of study from October until December 2016 before they started their internship in January until May 2017. They finally finished their 6th semester study in June/l July 2017.
Not only studying and doing internship, they also took part in a fundraising event “DINESHCARA: Kinder + Buecher + Spenden = Besserezukunft” which was held by the Indonesian Students Community of Jena in December 2016. The main purpose of this event is to gather funds for helping an independent educational oriented community “Seribu Buku untuk Seribu Bukit” so that they can distribute free books to children living in remote areas of East Nusa Tenggara.
The event consisted of 2 parts: Indonesian Cultural Exhibition and Indonesian Cultural Night. In the exhibition, interesting information about Indonesian culture, food and tourism objects from all over Indonesia were shown. The exhibition lasted for three days.
On the final night, an Indonesian Cultural Night was held. It was presented as a musical theatre with songs and traditional dances from several Indonesian regions such as Aceh, North Sumatra, Central Java, Bali, Central Borneo, and many others. At the end of the show the audiences were served typical Indonesian food. This event attracted an audience of about 500 from all over Jena.
By taking part in this event those 15 SGU students were rewarded with additional valuable experiences and opportunities in Germany, such as organizing an event based on German virtues, teamwork and sharing. This was besides their growth in their studies and workexperiences. Last but not least they have presented how beautiful Indonesia is to the world.
