SGU Caring for the Victims of Sunda Strait Tsunami

The tsunami’s waves that struck beaches along the Sunda Strait on Saturday, 22 December 2018 caused more than 200 deaths and left a further 800 people injured. This disaster not only affected adults but also children, leaving them with a lack of no stationary and other school supplies.

Based on the information gathered by the volunteers on the site, on 23 January 2019 a representative of SGU Library, together with other members of Forum Perpustakaan Perguruan Tinggi Indonesia (FPPTI), made a donation to the victims of Sunda Strait Tsunami at SDN Teluk 3, Labuan Pandeglang, Banten. The donation with the tagline “100 Shoes for the Children of Nation, Run to Catch The Achievement“ provided 100 shoes, 64 bags, and 200 pairs of socks to the students, as well as 40 storybooks for the school library.

The head of SGU Library, Ms. Maria Lamury, was given an opportunity to share a fable story to the elementary school students as a part of trauma healing program for children displaced following the disaster.
