SGU Supports Plagiarism Prevention to Increase Academic Integrity in Higher Education

In order to ensure that scientific papers written by the students and lecturers are not considered as  plagiarism, each paper should be original research and contain some new ideas without putting aside the original ideas from the previous studies. This statement is strengthened by the Regulation of Ministry of Education No. 17/2010 about the prevention of plagiarism in higher education and an Official Letter from Directorate General of Higher Education No. 1753/2016 that states that a scientific paper written by a lecturer who wants to move from academic rank 2 to academic rank 3 (from Lektor to Lektor Kepala or from Lektor Kepala to Guru Besar) must be checked by an authorized plagiarism checker.

To socialize the government regulations above, Swiss German University, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara in cooperation with The Forum of University Libraries in Banten (FPPTI Banten-Forum Perpustakaan Perguruan Tinggi Indonesia) and Turnitin held a seminar themed “Plagiarism Prevention to Increase Academic Integrity in Higher Education” on 17 April 2018 at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara campus in Gading Serpong, Tangerang.

The seminar was attended by 143 participants which consisted of rectors, vice rectors, heads of academic research and community service, heads of human resources development, lecturers, journal managers, head librarians and librarians from the state and private universities in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Serang.

During the seminar, Jack Brazel, Asia Development Manager of Turnitin, was the first speaker who shared about the plagiarism practice in Australia using Turnitin anti-plagiarism checker.
